MTA Tower Operator Practice Exam

The component associated with the indication of the direction of traffic is the traffic lever. This device plays a crucial role in the operation of train movements, as it is specifically designed to control the routes and the direction of trains on the tracks. When the traffic lever is set to a specific position, it signals the intended direction in which the train should travel, thereby enhancing safety and ensuring efficient traffic flow within the rail network.

In contrast, the signal board primarily displays visual signals to the train operators but does not actively control or indicate the direction of traffic. The model board is generally used for operational displays but is not directly involved in directing train movements. The master lever typically functions within a control system to manage overall operations but does not provide specific directionality regarding traffic flow. Thus, the traffic lever is uniquely suited for the task of indicating the direction in which trains are directed to travel.
